What means the "memory effect"?
Many people are wondering whether is it worthwhile to discharge the battery to zero before charging it.
To answer this question, it is worth to learn more about the term "memory effect".
The batteries are able to remember how much charge remains (it works only when the device still has a charge, and it is not fully discharged).
If you often charge from 20% to 80%, then the battery can "forget" about 40% that were not charged (from 0 to 20% and from 80 to 100%).
However, this applies to old nickel-metal hydride and nickel-cadmium batteries, but does not apply to lithium-ion (Li-ion) and lithium-polymer (Li-pol) batteries.
Li-ion and Li-pol batteries do not suffer from "memory loss", so they should be charged frequently, but not up to the end, and do not let them discharge to zero.
