March 30: Earth Hour
Earth Hour in 2019 - March 30 from 20:30 to 21:30 local time

The Earth Hour is a global annual international event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which is held annually on one of the last Saturdays of March.
On this day at the appointed time, people in different countries of the world turn off light and other electrical appliances for one hour.
The purpose of this action is to attract the attention of the entire world community to the problem of climate change of our planet, to show its support for the idea of the need for joint actions in solving this environmental problem.
"Hour of the Earth" is, first of all, a symbolic action of careful attitude to nature, a public call for decisive measures to preserve the climate of our planet and care for its limited resources.
According to scientists, by 2003 the impact of human activities on the ecosystem of the planet has grown so much that if current trends continue, by 2050 people will need a second planet to meet the needs of mankind in energy, water, food, waste storage ...
Therefore, it is necessary to solve the problem of preserving the planet together and at different levels, and with the help of today's action, every person anywhere in the world can demonstrate his concern about the depletion of natural resources and "vote" for a healthy planet.
For the first time, the idea to turn off electricity for an hour in order to demonstrate its solidarity in the struggle for environmental protection was realized by WWF in 2007 in the scale of one city - Sydney (Australia).
The next year this event was supported by a broad community (more than 100 million people in 35 countries joined the campaign), becoming an international environmental initiative.
Since then, the action is gaining momentum, and more people, cities and countries are participating in it.
And today Earth Hour is the most massive environmental action on the planet. It is attended by more than 2 billion people around the world from more than 184 countries and almost 7,000 cities.
And in the action involved as millions of ordinary citizens, and thousands of organizations around the world. Since this is an absolutely voluntary action, people themselves decide how many and what electrical appliances they will turn off, and the city authorities initiate the switching off of the illumination of city facilities. Organizers of the action for security reasons do not recommend switching off street lighting, aeronautical lights and traffic lights.
Therefore, every year for one hour in the cities of the Earth, electricity is cut off at a variety of sites, including dozens of attractions around the world.
For example, during the action of recent years, more than a thousand outstanding monuments around the world turn off their coverage, among them
the Empire State Building (New York),
the Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco),
the Colosseum (Rome) ,
the Opera House (Sydney),
the Buddhist temple "Wat Arun" (Bangkok),
the Royal Palace (Stockholm), City Hall (London),
the Eiffel Tower (Paris),
the Acropolis (Athens) and many others.
By itself, hourly switching off of light can not significantly improve the ecological situation on Earth, but this action, in the opinion of the organizers, will help to understand to many inhabitants of our planet that saving energy will eventually reduce harmful emissions into the earth's atmosphere, and will enable everyone indifferent person to contribute to the preservation of the health of our planet.
Today "Earth Hour" is the most mass social action in the history of mankind.
Until 2011, the logo of the action looked like "60" - that is, 60 minutes, which people devote to the planet Earth, taking measures to combat climate change.
But the "Earth Hour" is much more than turning off the light for one hour every year, so from 2011 the logo looks like "60+", which means the call to the participants of the action to go beyond one hour and make one more step for the sake of the planet , for example, start saving water, use public transport more often instead of a personal car, take care of water, save and hand over waste paper. Or take part in various environmental campaigns and campaigns conducted by environmental and environmental organizations and funds.
