December 10
Human Rights Day
Human Rights Day is celebrated on the proposal of the UN General Assembly annually, on December 10, starting in 1950. On this day in 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The declaration defines basic human rights. So far this document has only the status of a recommendation, but on the basis of it two binding on the parties to the treaty are built: the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
One of the authors of the document, Eleanor Roosevelt, called the Declaration the “Magna Carta” for all of humanity (therefore, the Declaration is sometimes called the Charter of Human Rights).
International Animal Rights Day
December 10 in many countries of the world is celebrated the International Day for the adoption of the Declaration of Animal Rights or the International Animal Rights Day, which was established in 1998 - the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Human Rights.
And this is not a coincidence - it is celebrated on the same day as Human Rights Day because the organizations that established it wanted to emphasize that ALL living beings on our planet have the right for a life and protection from suffering.
Unfortunately, few inhabitants of our planet know that our younger brothers also have the World Declaration for the Protection of their Rights. By the way, it was compiled precisely on the basis of the World Declaration of Human Rights and its goal is to end the exploitation and killing of animals.
The Universal Declaration of Animal Rights was drafted by the International League of Animal Rights on September 23, 1977 in London and was solemnly proclaimed on October 15, 1978 in Paris in the UNESCO building. Later, in 1990, at the initiative of the International League of Animal Rights, some changes and additions were made to it.
The declaration consists of 10 articles, which state not only that every living being has the right for respect and life without suffering, exploitation and death, and cruel treatment of animals is unacceptable. And also people must take care of the restoration of the population of different species of animals on Earth, and actions leading to the unjustified death of any animal are a crime against life.
Day of Charity
Every year on the second Sunday of December, since 2007, the Day of Charity is celebrated.
The meaning of the word "charity" is understandable, probably, to every person. To do good - that is, to provide free aid to those who need it. Charity is provided voluntarily in any acceptable form: the performance of any work or the provision of services, donation of property, the provision of financial support. Charity can be engaged in private individuals or organizations, charitable foundations.
World Football Day
World Football Day is also celebrated by the UN. Thus, the international community pays tribute to this sport, which for many millions is not just a game, but a lifestyle.
The first mention of football as a “kicked ball game” has been found by historians in Chinese sources dating back to the second millennium BC. This occupation was called Tsu Chyu, which means "push with a foot." Playing football allowed the Chinese soldiers to keep fit.
Other researchers claim that the forerunner of football was the wild game of the Saxons, who lived in England in the 8th century. On the battlefield, after the battles, they kicked off the severed heads of the enemy.
Very little is known about this game: the fact that there was a goal and a goalkeeper, that the game was part of the soldiers' physical training, and that it was already known three thousand years ago.
Football was played in ancient Greece and Rome about two and a half thousand years ago. In Greece, this game was called “battle for the ball,” from which we can assume that they played it, respectively, using all sorts of martial arts techniques.
