On November 28, World Compassion Day is celebrated. The initiator of the establishment of this humane holiday was an Indian poet, journalist and public figure - Pritish Nandi. The main idea of the Day is to promote lifestyle on the basis of Ahimsa.
Ahimsa is a behavior and a principle of actions in which the first requirement is not doing harm and pain to any living form, that is, non-violence in its broad sense is non-killing, not causing harm to all life (people, animals, plants) never not by word or deed.
For the first time, the Day of Compassion was celebrated in 2012 and was dedicated to the fate of animals, the need for compassion for living beings on the planet and the importance of vegetarianism.

Today the Orthodox have started the Christmas fast. It is also called the Fourtieth, because it lasts 40 days - until the very “first star” on Christmas Eve.
