Holidays
November 15
Recycling day
The holiday has been celebrating its history since 1997, when residents of the United States first celebrated America Recycles Day ( “The Day When America Recycles Waste”). It was conducted by environmentalists to encourage Americans who donate waste to recycling and buy products made from recycled materials. Over time, this holiday has spread to other countries.
In the modern world, the problem of waste accumulation is particularly acute for two main reasons, the consequences of which can be very deplorable for humanity.
On the one hand, the reserves of natural resources available on Earth are not unlimited. Their irrational use has led to the fact that today mankind has already spent about a third of these resources. That is why it is important to spend them economically, at the same time looking for an alternative to them and engaging in the recycling of already used raw materials. On the other hand, one of the causes of global warming is called the "greenhouse effect", including because of the huge mountains of industrial and domestic garbage. People throw out tons of plastic bags, various packages, tires, household appliances and other waste, the decomposition of which will last for centuries.
“Garbage must be properly disposed of, and even better - recycled, giving the already used raw material a second life,” say environmentalists. First of all, in their opinion, a way out of the critical situation should be sought at the state level. This may be the creation of a certain strategy for working with waste, the transfer of production capacity to low-waste technologies and other ways that will allow for more intensive processing of waste or reduce their quantity.
International Day of Quitting Smoking
According to the World Health Organization, smoking accounts for 90% of deaths from lung cancer, 75% from chronic bronchitis and 25% from coronary heart disease. Every ten seconds, one heavy smoker dies on the planet (by 2020 this level can rise to one person in three seconds).
By the way, to get rid of this addiction there is another Day: every year on May 31 is World No Tobacco Day.
World Philosophy Day
UNESCO proposed to hold World Philosophy Day on an annual basis in order to globalize the world community to the wealth of philosophical thought.
The purpose of the Day is to familiarize people with the philosophical heritage, bring new ideas to everyday thinking and stimulate public debates of intellectuals and civil society on the challenges that society is facing today.
