Holidays

November 17

Having collected statistics on "unlucky" animals, Italian activists from the Association for the Protection of the Environment and Animals set about solving the problem of the extermination of black cats.

The first step was the approval of the Day of Protection of Black Cats in 2007. As stated in the Association, the organization will not only help cats, but also reward people who show sympathy for the hunted animals.

However, in some countries of the world, black cats do not need help at all.
For example, in the UK, prejudices about these animals are extremely positive.
In some parts of England they believe that the mistress of a black cat will never be left without fans.
In Scotland it is believed that a night cat brings wealth to a house.
Sailors do not offended black cats: they are sure that a ship or domestic cat of this color promises good luck in swimming.

Day of Students

International Students' Day is associated with youth, romance and fun. Nevertheless, the story of his appearance is very sad.

On October 28, 1939, in the city Prague, occupied Czechoslovakia, students and their teachers went to a demonstration to mark the anniversary of the formation of the Czechoslovakia State. The occupying units dispersed the demonstration, while a medical student, Jan Opletal, was shot. Dozens of demonstrators were arrested.

On November 17, the Gestapo and SS men early in the morning surrounded the student dormitories. More than 1,200 students were arrested and imprisoned in a concentration camp in Sachsenhausen. Nine students and activists of the student movement were executed without trial in the dungeons of a prison in Prague's Ruzyne district.

Two years later, an international meeting of students fighting against fascism was held in London, at which it was decided to celebrate this date in honor of the victims as Student's Day every year.

The official status of the holiday International Students' Day received on November 17, 1946 at the World Congress of Students, held in Prague.

International Day for Premature Babies

November 17 is the International Day for Premature Babies. It was established in 2009 on the initiative of the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Children.

Every year on the planet about 15 million babies are born prematurely, in other words, on average, every 10th child. More than one million of these children die soon after birth, and many suffer from various types of physical and neurological disabilities or have learning problems. According to statistics, premature births account for almost half of all deaths of newborn babies in the world.

The increase in the number of cases of preterm birth is due to several factors:
  • First of all, it is the later age of women giving birth,
  • the widespread use of drugs for infertility,
  • unreasonable premature stimulation of childbirth and
  • cesarean section.

For the care of children who have received life as a result of such childbirth, the most high-tech intensive care is required.
