PiscesFebruary 28. Born on this day have a great interest in life, which is transmitted to everyone around. These energetic people are capable of revitalizing any company.

However, due to the overflowing energy, they tend to go down the completely wrong path. It is almost impossible to make them understand this, since they are completely absorbed in their own enthusiasm.

"Hot" natures, they can be confident, dynamic, adventurous or harmful at the same time - depending on the circumstances.

It is quite obvious that those born on February 28 would be better off sitting down and thinking everything over, understanding themselves and becoming more circumspect and purposeful before taking any specific steps.

Since they spend their energy in unlimited quantities and are easily carried away by new ideas, those born on this day create illusions about their future, which bring them nothing but disappointment.

Wallace Hume Carothers invented nylon

February 28, 1935

birthday, date, history, holidays,

Wallace H Carothers from the central laboratory of the firm "DuPont de Nemours" in Wilmington in 1934 synthesized polyamide resin.

February 28, 1935 on its basis Carothers with a group of chemists from the same laboratory created a new synthetic fiber. This is the first synthetic fiber in the world called nylon.

The work on the further development of the fiber continued.

But on April 29, 1937, after a prolonged depression, as officially stated, he committed suicide by throwing himself out of the window of his laboratory. He never saw the triumphal march of his offspring in the world.

October 27, 1938, the leaders of the company "DuPont de Nemours" announced the invention of nylon.

And in 1939, nylon went on sale in one of the department stores in Wilmington in the US. These were the world's first nylon stockings, which became a sensation. After just six months in New York, on the day of the sale, 5 million pairs of these stockings were sold.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a version that the word "nylon" comes from the names of the cities of New York and London (NYLON = New York + London).

It is also believed that this word is an abbreviation of the New York Lab of Organic Nitrocompounds, but there is no reliable information about it.

Webster's dictionary says that this is an artificially invented word.

In the etymological dictionary of Douglas Harper, it is stated that the name was created by DuPont from the randomly chosen generic syllable nyl- and ending -on, often used in fiber names (for example, kapron), originally taken from the English word "cotton".

Holidays

Day of Military Navigators

It is known that the first navigators were artillery officers - and for this role they chose only those who not only knew how to adjust the firing in practice, but also had mathematical knowledge. During the First World War, scorers turned into navigators and began to provide pilots with flight maps.

The rapid development of the aviation navigational service fell on the 20-30s of the last century. At that time, a flight was made from Moscow to New York, as well as a flight along the most difficult route “Moscow - Ankara - Tbilisi - Tehran - Termez - Kabul - Tashkent”. The pilots were helped with these routes by the navigators, who calculated the flight parameters with the utmost precision.

Navigators are respected in our time - because of the complexity of the work. The duties of the specialists of this profession include the collection of a set of data that the navigator must analyze, compare and give the pilot in the form of three figures: the course, altitude and speed of the flight - the task is not easy and extremely responsible.
