Holidays
International Day Against Tuberculosis
The day aims to raise public awareness about tuberculosis, a preventable disease.
The history of the holiday is connected with the date of March 24, 1882. On this day, a talented German scientist Robert Koch announced the discovery of bacilli causing tuberculosis, which made the detection and treatment of this disease real. The world community decided to note this fact, and a couple of decades later Robert Koch received the Nobel Prize in medicine.
Despite Koch's research, the disease could not be defeated, so in 1993 the World Health Organization officially recognized the disease as a disaster. According to terrible statistics, one and a half million people die every year, and the majority of the victims inhabit the countries of the third world.
The day of fighting tuberculosis should not only frighten, make a person in fear of resorting to medical institutions and undergo regular examinations, but also know that the disease is curable, and therefore you should not give up.
