Detective - a verbal narrative, based on the plot of which the conflict between good and evil, implemented in the disclosure of the crime. The mystery and crime are always present in the detective story, but in this genre all the mysterious is objective, "real".

April 20, 1841 in Philadelphia "Graham's Ladies' and Gentlemen's Magazine" was published the first in the history of literature detective story "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" American writer Edgar Allan Poe.

The action takes place in Paris, where two women are brutally murdered on the street, and the main character is an eccentric private detective who conducts an investigation.

It is with this work that it is customary to start counting the development of the detective genre.

Further Poe wrote several stories in this genre - "The Mystery of Marie Roger", "The Stolen Letter" and others.

Poe's story was not only the first, but, as many critics still believe, is also the best detective.

The term "detective" appeared only a quarter of a century later, and the author himself called his novels "logical" or "stories about conclusions". They have an initial puzzle, which is revealed through a complex and mysterious process that combines intuitive logic, observation, and an insightful conclusion. Although before that time some authors used separate elements of the detective in their works, but it was Poe who managed to combine all these influences in his work: five novellas from his extensive heritage developed all the fundamental principles, which were later followed by the authors of detective literature.

The writer has created not only a new genre, but his main scheme is a "mystery-investigation-explanation", and his main subjects, which are still used in detective literature. This is a household disassembly, and a killer maniac, blackmail, and "spy games." Also Poe invented the classic techniques of detectives, such as - "duckweed", tossing evidence, double play, false track ...

Talented Edgar Poe admired Baudelaire, Doyle, Chesterton, Balzac, Simenon, Dostoevsky, Balmont, Bryusov ... and all the true detective fans.

Millions of readers are reading the works of the detective genre today.

Chinese Language Day

Today is the day of one of the most ancient and most complex languages in the world.

The Day of the Chinese language was established at the same time as the days of the other official languages of the UN, in 2010.

It was established in memory of Tsang Jie - the founder of Chinese writing. According to legend, he was the court historian of the mythical emperor Huang Di and developed a set of pictograms, which later became the basis for hieroglyphs. This allowed to abandon the knotted writing.

Written Chinese is considered one of the most difficult in the world. To express all his wealth, about 80 000 hieroglyphs are used. However, even the Chinese do not use them all - for everyday use, there is enough “only” 3-5 000 characters.

And by the way, Chinese keyboards do not exist: hieroglyphs are introduced by pinyin.

Chinese is one of the most ancient languages on the planet. It is the official language of China, Taiwan and Singapore. In some US states, in particular, in New York, all official documents are necessarily translated into Chinese. In the world it is spoken by over 1.3 billion people. A huge number of native speakers was the reason for including Chinese among the six official and working languages of the UN.

Every year in the UN secretariat, events are held devoted to the days of languages. On the Day of the Chinese language traditionally held exhibitions of works of art performed by masters of the Middle Kingdom, as well as concerts and demonstration performances of martial arts schools.
