AriesApril 7. Born on this day exudes enthusiasm and energy.

However, those of them who have had an unhappy childhood - whether due to a lack of parental warmth or an unfavorable environment - are doomed to live with a touch of mild sadness.

As a rule, those born on April 7 are extremely active in their youth, but their actions are entirely aimed at ensuring a predictable and calm future for themselves.

On the other hand, they spend too much energy on rebellion.

And even though these people get wiser over the years (albeit just as tireless), the anger accumulated at a young age remains a big problem.

The English pharmacist sold to the first matches, how we know them today

At first glance, there is nothing simpler than a box of matches. But in reality the history of the match is quite interesting.

It is believed that the prototypes of matches are dry branches. With the help of them, ancient people bred fire.

Later, their place was taken by natural minerals that could give a spark.

Later was a flint.

And only the Chinese already in 570 AD began to impregnate the sticks for rubbing with sulfur.

A very important role in the birth of the match was played by the discovery of white phosphorus, which was made by a retired soldier from Hamburg Henning Brand in 1669. He studied the works of famous alchemists of that time in the intention to obtain gold. However, as a result of the experiments, a light powder with a surprising property of light appeared. Brand called it "phosphorus", which in Greek means "light-bearing".

English pharmacist John Walker came up with his invention, as it often happens, quite by accident. In 1826 he, as a pharmacist, mixed chemicals with a stick. A dried drop formed at the end of this stick. To remove it, he struck a stick on the floor. Fire flared up! He began to experiment, and on April 7, 1827, the first commercial deal took place: Walker sold to lawyer Nixon the first matches, consisting of a mixture of  potassium chlorate, white phosphorus and glue.

However, Walker, who demonstrated his discovery to everyone in a row, never bothered to patent it. But a guy named Samuel Jones, who somehow attended the demonstration, realized the market value of the invention. He called matches "luciferers" and began to sell them in tons, despite the fact that some problems were associated with "luciferers" - they smelled bad and disintegrated around a cloud of sparks during a fire.

In 1847, the Austrian chemist Schrotter made a discovery that made the matches "safe." He received a "red" phosphorus, which was not poisonous. And the following year, the head of matches, made by the German chemist Bether, included sulfur, potassium chlorate, manganese peroxide and glue. And to set them on fire, he created a special surface - he lubricated the paper with a composition containing a certain amount of red phosphorus.

The issue of "luciferers" gradually ceased.

In 1910, the American company Diamond Match was the first to receive a patent for health safe matches. The importance of this invention was so great that US President William Taft publicly appealed to patent owners and asked them to give up copyrights. The company agreed and on January 28, 1911, refused all rights to its invention.

Because of this, today the matches belong to virtually everyone.

Later, the first matchboxes also appeared, at first they were wooden, and then tin. Already then labels were glued on the boxes. The label carried not only information, but decorated matches. This led to the emergence of a whole branch of collecting - Phillumeny (also known as Phillumenism).

The International Match Day is celebrated on March 2.

Holidays

Annunciation

Today, the Orthodox Church celebrates one of the biggest holidays - the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos.

This holiday means the proclamation by the archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary of the gospel of the conception and the birth of Christ the Infant by her.

The celebration of the Annunciation was established by the church in the 4th century after the birth of Christ stood out on a separate holiday. The date of the Annunciation was established by counting out 9 months from Christmas.

Our ancestors believed: on the day when the Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to the Savior, spring finally conquers winter. According to beliefs, at the Annunciation, God blesses the earth, plants, and "every breath," which means that after the holiday, you can begin field work.

Some ancient customs are connected with the Annunciation.

They say: "the bird does not twist the nest, the maiden does not weave braids", that is, any work is considered a sin.

For this bright and joyful day, there were certain prayers. It was believed that in the most joyful holiday for every Christian, even in hell, sinners were not punished.

On a good news day, it is customary to do good and merciful affairs — to visit orphanages and shelters, imprisoned. Visiting seriously ill patients in hospices will also be a great thing.

There are a variety of interesting signs associated with this day.

It was impossible on that day, to sow, nor to begin any new affairs. For clothes to be worn for a long time, they did not need to be worn for the first time that day.

So that the year was calm and successful, the health did not fail, the family was near, it is necessary to eat prosphora. Crumbs of this church bread were even mixed with seeds for better harvest.

On this day, all fasting people are allowed to eat fish dishes.

World Health Day

World Health Day has been celebrated annually since 1950. On this day in 1948, the Constitution of the World Health Organization (WHO) entered into force. WHO devotes each annual World Health Day to topics of its own and conducts various promotional events.

World Health Day 2016 is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of diabetes. About 60 million people in the European Region have diabetes. The prevalence of this disease is increasing in all age groups. The increase in the number of cases is mainly due to the increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity, unhealthy diets, insufficient physical activity, as well as unfair social and economic living conditions.

According to WHO forecasts, by 2030 diabetes will become the seventh leading cause of death.

A significant proportion of diabetes can be prevented. It has been proven that simple lifestyle change measures effectively prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. Maintaining a normal weight, regular exercise and a healthy diet can reduce the risk of diabetes.
