AriesApril 17. Born on this day are filled with a sense of their own strength, and this is combined with an adventurous spirit and leadership habits.

They definitely belong to those who expect to be heard. Such people very painfully experience the lack of attention to their own person and even feel confused in such situations. They know what they are worth, and therefore expect from others well-deserved respect and willingness to follow them even to the ends of the earth.

At first, they can give the impression of quiet and inconspicuous, but even through external modesty, a deep power appears. For some of them, the realization of their own potential comes over time, and this is often facilitated by some kind of cardinal event in their life.

Engineer Igor Sikorsky demonstrated the first amphibian helicopter

Aircraft designer Igor Sikorsky (1889-1972) is the author of the world's first four-engined "Russian Knight" airplane, the world's first transatlantic hydroplane and the first production helicopter.

Back in 1931 he patented the design of a machine that in its fundamental features differed little from modern helicopter models: two propellers - the main (horizontal) on the roof and the auxiliary (vertical) on the tail.

His first experimental VS-300 helicopter, managed by the designer himself, took off in September 1939. Also before 1939 Sikorsky created about 15 types of aircraft.

The VS-300 helicopter was a steel pipe with an open cockpit for the pilot, the power of the device was 65 horsepower, it was equipped with a Lycoming engine and a belt transmission that rotated the three-blade main rotor.

On April 17, 1941, the aircraft designer Igor Sikorsky demonstrated to the amazed American public the world's first amphibian helicopter on a float chassis.

It was a modified "VS-300". The helicopter took off from the water and landed on land. The flight duration of the helicopter on the floats was 1 hour 35 minutes, and the speed reached 100 kilometers per hour.

Subsequently, 18 types of helicopters were created and brought to serial production.

It was the Sikorsky helicopter that was the first in the world to be put into serial production. He was also the first in the world to build turbine helicopters, amphibious helicopters with retractable landing gear and "flying cranes".

Sikorsky helicopters for the first time made flights across the Atlantic (1967) and Pacific (1970) oceans with refueling in the air.

The engineer's machines were used for both military and civilian purposes. The last helicopter, built by Sikorsky before retiring, was the S-58, which is considered to be the best first-generation helicopter.

The cause of the brilliant aircraft designer continues the company "Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation" founded by him, which is still one of the world leaders in the design and manufacture of helicopters for commercial, industrial and military needs.

Holidays

World Hemophilia Day

This date is timed to the birthday of Frank Schneibel, founder of the ''World Federation of Hemophilia'', and has been celebrated in the world since 1989.

Hemophilia - blood coagulation - one of the most severe genetic diseases caused by congenital absence of coagulation factors in the blood.

Previously, it was called “the royal disease”, because, due to kinship marriages, the descendants of Queen Victoria became “suppliers” of this terrible disease to the royal families of Spain, England and Russia.

The disease manifests itself only in males, and the carriers of the gene are women. Each daughter of such a woman has a 50% chance of becoming a carrier. Every boy born to this woman has a 50% chance of becoming sick with hemophilia.

According to WHO, 400 000 people (1 out of 10 000) suffer from hemophilia in the world. In former times, a patient with hemophilia was noticeable in the mass of people due to disturbed gait, lameness. Often he had to lean on a cane or crutches. Modern young people with this disease have largely avoided such torment and have every chance of a decent life. This was achieved thanks to adequate treatment with modern and safe medicines - concentrates of blood coagulation factors.

World Hemophilia Day is celebrated every year under a new motto that focuses on a particular problem related to hemophilia. The motto of World Hemophilia Day 2015 is to create a caring family. For people with coagulation disorders, it is extremely important to create a family or community of people who can help and take care in difficult times.
