Starting from the winter of 2012, on one of the Sunday days of January, on the initiative of the International Ski Federation (FIS), a new holiday is celebrated - World Snow Day. Another name for it is the International Winter Sports Day.
The purpose of the holiday is to increase interest in winter sports and involve young people in an active way of life.
According to the FIS plan, on this day there should be "snow festivals", during which children and adults can take part in competitions on skates, skis or snowboards. As organizers conceive, "this day will give everyone an opportunity to enjoy the snow, get acquainted with someone and plunge into the bright future of winter sports, which will be perceived not only as a competition, but also as entertainment."
More than 20 countries took part in the first year of the celebration, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Norway, Poland, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and others.
On the second year the readiness to support the international festival has already expressed about 40 countries. Interestingly, they include not only traditional "skiing" countries (Switzerland, Finland or Norway), but also less known in this sense, Hungary, Japan, Estonia and even Pakistan.
International Day of Hugs
January 21 is one of the most unusual holidays around the world - International Day of Hugs.
The holiday was founded in the United States in 1986 under the name of the National Day of Hugs, and then rapidly spread throughout the world. According to the holiday tradition, even a stranger can be friendly embraced on this day.
Despite the still very young age of the Day of Hugs, today it is difficult to find the author, who came up with the idea of such a “close” celebration on January 21. It is only known that the origins of the tradition, which appeared in the 70s of the 20th century, lie in the student community of Western European youth. It was on this day that the boys and girls embraced each other without any intimate motivation. According to a kind of legend, during a friendly hug, people exchange spiritual warmth.
Scientists say:
- that friendly touches increase immunity,
- stimulate the central nervous system,
- increase the level of hemoglobin in the blood,
- as well as another hormone - oxytocin, which causes a benevolent disposition to other people.
- Hugs improve the cardiovascular system,
- stabilize blood pressure.
- Psychotherapists from the United States brought the rate of daily hugs. Minimum - 4 hugs per day, and for good health you need to hug at least eight times a day.
- According to research by Canadian scientists, open and positive people who love hugs have a longer life span than closed and restrained.
World Religious Day
Every year on the third Sunday of January, at the initiative of the United Nations, World Religious Day is celebrated around the world.
It has been celebrating since 1950, when the national governing body of the Baha'i Faith in the United States established it with the goal of proclaiming the single essence of all world religions and demonstrating that religion is, above all, the power to unite the world, not discord.
