Carl Benz received a patent for his first car

January 29, 1886

January 29, 1886 132 years ago - Carl Benz received a patent for his first car

After 1876, when Nicholas Augustine Otto patented an internal combustion engine, many intelligent people worked on improving it. And Karl Benz would remain one of a host of nameless mechanics and engineers of this time, whose names are now known only to archivists, but the case was turn differently.

The first Benz car, made in 1885, was a three-wheeled two-man crew weighing 250 kg on high wheels with spokes. ( on picture). On it, Benz put his new four-stroke gasoline engine with water cooling capacity of 0.9 hp. The cylinder was located horizontally above the axis of the huge rear wheels and set them in motion through one belt and two chain drives. The crew was solemnly named ''Motorwagen''.

The car developed a ridiculous by our standards speed - 16 km / h, but at that time it was a very progressive design.

In 1885, Carl first demonstrated his three-wheeled self-propelled crew to the burghers of Mannheim. However, the novelty caused not so much interest as irritation. When Benz decided to drive through the city, the noise of the engine scared the butcher's horse. She carried it, scattering cargo on the way. To hush up the scandal, Carl bought a spoiled goods, put the car under a canopy and began to improve it.

On January 29, 1886, after the invention was subjected to numerous tests and some modifications, ''Motorwagen'' received the German Imperial Patent No. 37435.

In 1887, the world's first car debuted at an exhibition in Paris. There were only three such cars, two of which disappeared without a trace (most likely, they were stolen), and the third carelessly flaunts on the podium of the German Museum in Munich. The state of this exhibit is estimated as very good, you can even ride on the car, though nobody does it - rarities must be protected ...

In memory of this historic event, January 29 is celebrated as the birthday of the car.

For World Peace

Today, our planet celebrates the International Day of Mobilization against Nuclear War.

And this is right, humane, but it requires every kind of support from the population, which is recommended today to do.

On January 29, 1985, in the capital of India, New Delhi, at a meeting of heads of state and government of several countries - India, Greece, Mexico, Argentina, Tanzania and Sweden - a declaration was adopted, the main purpose of which was to call for an end to the nuclear arms race, reduction the elimination of the world's nuclear arsenals and the elimination of the very threat of nuclear war.

It is precisely since the adoption of the Delhi Declaration that the Day of Mobilization against the Threat of Nuclear War has been leading its history.

At present, many countries of the world have nuclear weapons on their arms, but their use is prohibited. This is connected with the sad events of 1945, when two bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which claimed many lives, and the consequences of these events are still reflected.

And although at that time nuclear weapons were used in hostilities for the first and last time in world history, over the following decades international diplomacy and the military strategy of states were strongly influenced by the plans for a possible nuclear war. And the creation of new types of nuclear weapons leaves the issue of nuclear threat to many states one of the topical themes of international diplomacy today.
