After qualifying "arrivals", 28 cars were allowed to start - 14 with gasoline and 7 with steam engines.
Started on the distance with a half-minute interval, the cars left the capital and headed for Rouen, 126 kilometers to the north-west.
Only 17 cars were able to reach the finish line. The greatest speed (more than 22 km / hour) was developed by the 20-strong steam car of the Marquis Albert De Dion.
However, the first prize by decision of the jury was divided between two petrol cars of Peugeot and Panhard-Levassor brands. They were considered the most reliable in operation.
