John Baird is a pioneer of color television
August 13, 1928 in London through the radio station of the European joint-stock company, founded by Scottish scientist John Baird, the first color television program was aired.
Baird's television system was very different from modern television. It was based on a mechanical scanning system using a metal disk with holes - the invention of Paul Nipkov. The advantage of the Baird system was that, due to the very low resolution of the screen, it was possible to transmit a television image using a conventional mid-wave radio system. Baird could transmit the image using the BBS radio system.
The inventor was the first in the world who demonstrate a television image. It was a miniature, about the size of a postage stamp, very weak and flickering, with very low resolving power.
Baird first demonstrated his device in one of the London department stores in Soho in 1924. However, the inventor was not able to achieve transmission of halftones, and only silhouettes were visible on the screen instead of faces.
In 1926, the indefatigable Scotsman made a second attempt - this time the audience, who was present at the first public TV show in history, was shocked.
Two years later, in 1928, Baird first created a working model of a color TV - 30 years before its widespread practical use.
Holidays
International Left-handers Day
International Left-handers Day is an unofficial holiday that is dedicated to people, preferably using their left hand. Celebrated annually on August 13th.
This day was first marked on August 13, 1976 at the initiative of Left-handers International. According to some reports, for the first time, the Day of Lefty was celebrated on August 13, 1992 on the initiative of the British Left-Hander Club established two years before.
The purpose of the action is to draw the attention of manufacturers of various equipment to the problems of left-handers: when working on equipment for right-handers, left-handers make movements unnatural for them, as a result they are more likely to get nervous and muscular stress. As a result, according to a study conducted in the USA in 1991, left-handers die more often in industrial accidents.
