International Mother Earth Day - the holiday of our big house
The President of the 63rd session of the General Assembly, Miguel d'Escoto Brockman, stated that the proclamation in the resolution of this International Day is an acknowledgment that the Earth and its ecosystems are our home, provide life for mankind, as well as a confirmation of the commitments made at the United Nations Conference on the Environment and development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. Therefore, to achieve an equitable balance between the economic, social and environmental needs of the present and future generations, it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the planet Earth.
The resolution also notes that the term Mother Earth is generally accepted in many countries, that it reflects the relationship between the planet, its ecosystems and man. Inviting all UN member states, international and non-governmental organizations to celebrate the International Mother Earth Day, the General Assembly draws attention to the fact that this holiday is celebrated annually in many countries.
In the northern hemisphere, Earth Day is observed in the spring, and in the Southern Hemisphere - in the autumn. The main goal of this worldwide action is to attract the attention of society and every person of the planet to the problems of the Earth, to the problems of its environment, and gives an opportunity to learn about those difficult tasks that humanity faces for the preservation of the planet.
Tradition to celebrate April 22 Earth Day was born in the US in 1970, in 1990 this day became an international action. In Russia it is celebrated since 1992. And every year this Day is dedicated to a certain topic. And in 2016, the celebration of Earth Day coincided with the signing ceremony of the Paris Climate Agreement, which was adopted by all 196 parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on December 12, 2015 in Paris. Under this agreement, the countries agreed to work together to limit the growth of the global average temperature to less than 2 degrees, and taking into account the serious consequences, to strive for an indicator of 1.5 degrees.
What is it, our Earth?
It is estimated that the planet Earth is about 4.5 billion years old.
If you want to go around the Earth, walking along the equator, you will have to travel a distance of almost 40010 kilometers.
The distance from the surface to the center is 6,378 kilometers.
Moreover, really solid rocks (lithosphere) form a layer of only about 70 kilometers, and, moving further inland, we observe semi-liquid and liquid states.

And the coldest place on Earth recognized the Antarctic - July 21, 1983 at the research station "East" in the Antarctic, it was recorded -89 degrees Celsius.
Our Earth is incredibly rich in minerals - scientists have already classified about 4000 kinds of minerals, about 200 of them are of practical importance. Annually 50-100 kinds of minerals are discovered.
The Earth has one natural satellite - the Moon visible to the naked eye.
Mother Earth Day April 22, like Earth Day, held on Vernal Equinox Day, gives every inhabitant in all the populated corners of the world the opportunity to express gratitude to our large common house.
Every year, scientists from the countries of the world gather at this day round table to discuss global environmental problems. In different countries, various events and actions dedicated to a particular topic are organized. These are conferences, exhibitions, the closure of traffic on busy streets of large cities, cleaning up the territory and planting trees.
