TaurusMay 14People born on on this day know how to easily and quickly recognize the possibilities of both the present and the future. They are highly modern in terms of their worldview, they are able to predict what the world will be like even in two hundred years, and at the same time they are actively and energetically living and working in the present day.

Some of them demonstrate a lack of any interest in the past and even view tradition as an unnecessary collection of bad habits.

It is not surprising that those born on May 14 boldly abandon tradition and desperately embark on experiments in the field of their professional activities.

They are much more confident in their own ideas and plans than in those projects that are described in textbooks and books - if, of course, they have read them themselves.

The first American orbital station was put into orbit

May 14, 1973

The first American orbital station was put into orbit.

On May 14, 1973, the first American orbital station Skylab was launched into space orbit. There were no astronauts on board. First we should make sure that their stay in space will be safe.

Skylab created on the basis of the third stage of the rocket "Saturn-5". In a fuel tank with a diameter of about 7 meters, the living and working premises were equipped, the oxidizer tank was converted into a waste container. Combined with the station, the berthing structure and the lock chamber increased its weight to 77 tons and a length of up to 25 meters.

In orbit, Skylab was to open two solar panel panels in a sweep of about 30 meters. But on the way to space during the ascent one solar cell panel came off, and the second one did not open, in addition, the antimeteorite screen was torn off. Skylab was left without electricity and without thermal control, and its operation was practically impossible.

To resolve the situation it was decided to deliver to the station a replacement screen - a kind of "umbrella", a cloth stretched over four spreading spokes. "Umbrella" was made in the shortest time and on May 25 went to the station along with the first expedition.

In total, the station visited three expeditions. Their main task was to study human adaptation to the conditions of weightlessness and conduct scientific experiments.

The first expedition (Charles Conrad, Paul Whitec, Joseph Kerwin) lasted 28 days (from May 25 to June 22, 1973) and was not so much scientific as repairing. In the course of several spacewalks, astronauts uncovered the jammed solar battery and restored the thermoregulation of the station.

The second expedition consisting of Alan Bin, Jack Lausma and Owen Garriott went to the station on July 28, 1973 and spent 59 days in orbit.

The third (and last) expedition began on November 16, 1973 and lasted 84 days. The astronauts carried out a large volume of scientific and technological experiments, including on the behavior of materials in micro-gravity, astrophysics, solar physics, earth resources research and space technology.

Astronomical observations made it possible to double the amount of information on the physics of the Sun and led to the discovery of several unknown physical processes in the solar corona. Data on human adaptation to conditions of weightlessness served as a starting point for space medicine for more than ten years.

The station itself was subsequently withdrawn from orbit and collapsed in the atmosphere on July 11, 1979.

Freelancer Day

With the advent of the Internet, a large number of employees have the opportunity to go to "free bread".

If at first the earnings on the Internet were considered to be a business for teenagers who want to earn extra money, today adults - professionals in their field - proudly say that freelancing is a lifestyle.

According to estimates of the international site for freelancers Elance, first three places in the world in terms of income took by the United States, Pakistan and India.

And for those freelancers who are bored of spending time in the four walls of their own home, there is an excellent alternative - co-working. Coworking is a collaboration between freelancers in the same office, sharing the rent and other costs.

An interesting point: the term freelancer was first used by Walter Scott in the novel “Ivanhoe” to describe the “medieval mercenary warrior”.
