LibraOctober 14Moderation - is the slogan of people born on this day.

This does not mean that they are boring or conservative, but only indicates that the task of finding a path between dangerous extremes is extremely difficult.

When those born on October 14 go astray, it can lead to misfortune. But it is from such mistakes that they learn to turn events in their favor.

In a sense, those born on October 14 are bound by the framework of strict restrictions: a measured life suits them best, but by observing it, they deprive themselves not only of failures and falls, but also ups.

Austrian paratrooper jumped out of the stratosphere

October 14, 2012

Austrian paratrooper Felix Baumgartner
Austrian paratrooper Felix Baumgartner

On October 14, 2012 a long jump from the stratosphere (ie, from space), from a height of about 39 km made. The jump was completed safely - the extreme landed alive and healthy in a given place - in the vicinity of the city of Roswell of the State of New Mexico (USA).

Felix Baumgartner ( born in 1969) - parachutist, basejamper, extreme, who became famous for his particularly dangerous stunts. In the past, he served in the Austrian army, where he engaged in skydiving.

He prepared for this jump for five years.

From the Roswell air base, the balloon lifted Baumgartner with a parachute to an altitude of about 38,600 meters, the parachutist himself was in a capsule attached to the balloon, and then left.

During the fall, the speed of the fall of Felix was 1342.8 km / h, so he became the first person who managed to develop a supersonic speed in free fall. In general, the athlete was in free fall 36,529 meters, the time of free flight was 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

At an altitude of 7 km, Felix opened a parachute and landed safely on Earth.

The entire flight took less than ten minutes, but during this time Baumgartner set several world records - he became the first person in the world to overcome the speed of sound outside the equipment, made a parachute jump from such a great height, moreover a large free-fall distance, and the highest manned flight on a stratostat was made.

Baumgartner’s jump was broadcast on YouTube, the live broadcast gathered over 8 million people around the world.

Such a long jump is a very dangerous thing. After all, even the "ordinary" loss of consciousness from overloads could have been fatal. And at the very beginning of the jump, Baumgartner began to spin wildly and, as a result, crazy overloads. For a few seconds he tried to stop the rotation, which he hastily managed.

It was also not known how the human body would react to overcoming supersonic speed in free fall. Fortunately, it all ended well.

Baumgartner on returning to the earth said: “How tiny and humble I felt when I stood there, on the edge of the earth! At such a moment it is impossible to think about records, about new scientific data. The only thing you want at such a moment is to come back alive. ”

Such long jumps are not only the pursuit of thrills and records, but also an important scientific experiment, during which physicians receive data on the body's behavior under extreme overload conditions, and spacecraft designers experience rescue systems at the initial stage of space flight.

By the way, the previous record of a parachute jump from the stratosphere was recorded in the USSR. It belongs to parachutist Yevgeny Andreev. In November 1962, Major E. Andreev and Colonel P. Dolgov jumped from a stratostat from a height of 25.5 km. Unfortunately, only Andreev was able safely return to the ground. Dolgov, during the separation, damaged pressure helmet, there was a depressurization of the spacesuit, and he died instantly.

World Standards Day

World Standards Day is an international date to draw people's attention to the importance of creating common standards of action and to pay well-deserved tribute to the joint efforts of tens of thousands of professionals who devote their lives and professional skills to responsible and necessary work. "Standards Day" is celebrated worldwide every year, October 14th.

The date for the “World Standards Day” was not chosen by chance, because on that day, October 14, 1946, a conference of national standardization organizations opened in the capital of Great Britain, London. The conference was attended by 65 delegates from 25 countries. The main event of this conference can rightfully be called the creation of the ''International Organization for Standardization'', ISO. Currently, ISO members are national standardization organizations in 164 countries.

In 1970, ISO President Farouk Sunter, from Turkey, proposed celebrating ''World Standards Day'' annually to emphasize the importance of standardization for all economies in the world. The choice of date fell on the day of the foundation of the ''International Organization for Standardization''.

Each year, the holiday is held under a specific motto.
